After the loop, his quadruple Salchow gained 2.29 Grade of Execution (GOE) points, and his combination spins were incredibly speedy.

However, the following steps were rated level 3 due to excessive pace. In the latter half, Hanyu stumbled at the quadruple Salchow and failed at the third jump of a triple sequence, popping to a double Salchow, interrupting the flow of the whole programme somewhat.

In the end, Hanyu scored 197.58 points for the free skate. In total, he earned 301.47, leaving Nathan Chen of the USA more than 30 points behind him, and exceeding 300 points for the first time since the previous season's Grand Prix final.

"If you compare this 301 points to the 320 or 330 that I scored (last season) this is lower, but there were some mistakes in both the short programme and the free skate. I enjoyed my skating a lot today."

As he looked back, it was a triumph to demonstrate his progressed programme, the higher level, technique, and expressions.

"I was relieved to exceed 300 points this time. Of course there were thoughts in my mind that I must perform perfectly, that I have to reach 300 after acquiring 100 in the short programme and so on. I think my quadruples can get better as well as my other jumps, meaning there is still room for evolution. I should improve my expressions, skating, steps, and spins too."
