"The reason (for deciding upon the composition) is that I would like to jump two triple Axels in the latter half. I feel that the most difficult composition is one including three quadruple jumps and two triple Axels in the latter half. I trained for this in the summer so I thought it would go well."

It was a high level composition with two triple Axels in the latter half and a quadruple Lutz at the beginning. At the Rostelecom Cup, the first in the Grand Prix series, Hanyu attempted his bold challenge with the difficult quadruple Lutz for the first time.

In the official training, his quadruple Lutz was tilted - just as it had been when he tried a triple Lutz in a bad condition before - but he then managed to jump it during the preparation time with the song, even though he stumbled upon landing.

On the actual stage, Hanyu improved his core on the jump with a slightly irregular landing, and it earned 1.14 GOE points. It was a successful jump.

Although the following quadruple loop turned into a triple due to a slight lag on takeoff, he finely executed the next triple flip and went on to skate his step sequence calmly. It seemed as though he had reshaped it.
