Yuzuru Hanyu won the gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongchangYuzuru Hanyu won the gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongchangAfter the free skate, Hanyu looked back on his performance with a smile, but the second half was tough.

Before the performance, his stamina was a concern when it came to completing the free skate. After recovering from injury, he was only able to jump a triple Axel three weeks before the actual stage, and quadruple jumps followed later. Under such circumstances, he must have had an extremely small number of practices for the free program.

Even so, Hanyu showed some elegant jumps in the short program, completing them better and more sophisticated than ever, making me think that his stamina would be okay. As expected, he smoothly executed a quadruple Salchow + triple toe loop immediately after the second half, earning an additional 2.71 points.

However, he failed the landing for the next quadruple toe loop and couldn't jump a single loop + triple Salchow combination. He, therefore, changed from the double toe loop he initially planned to follow with a triple Axel to a single loop + triple Salchow in order to cover, but I felt a little tension from the jump.

Then, Hanyu jumped the following triple loop well, but the triple Lutz, which he had said before was what "the pain in my foot has the most effect on", was failed on landing, meaning the GOE was also deducted. It seemed that his stamina had run out, but in the end, I could only say "fantastic" when he finished without any major mistakes aside from those for the quadruple toe loop and the triple Lutz in the second half. After the performance, Hanyu pointed to his right hand and raised his index finger to represent the number '1'.
